Probate Search
Probate gives someone the legal right to deal with a deceased person’s property, money and possessions (their ‘estate’).
You can search for official probate records in England and Wales using a government website. Copies of the probate records can be purchased for a fee of £1.50.
The authority to deal with an estate is known as a ‘grant of representation’. The are two types. If there is a will you apply for a ‘Grant of Probate’. Where there is not a will you apply for ‘Letters of Administration’.
